You might think warbling in the privacy of the shower is a great way to start the day - and kinder to others - but it seems that those who sing in a group get the most benefit. Choral singers in England, Germany and Australia reported that singing improved their mood and quality of life in a survey this year by Canterbury Christ Church University. Co-author Professor Stephen Clift says singing helped some participants mental and physical health problems. The physiological benefits of singing have also being studied recently by Dr Maria Sandgren of the University of Stockholm in Sweden. Provisional results show that singing releases oxytocin , a hormone that indicates a sense of bonding and security . In an earlier study Dr Sandgren found that amateur singers were happier after 3 singing lesson. I have read this article in Readers Digest (Dec). Music is always part of my life.
